Is it worth calling a debt consolidation company for my debt?
My husband has about 5000 dollars in negative items on his credit report. We are trying to get them paid down. Is it a better option to pay down the debts and contact the creditors individually to have them report the payments to the bureaus, or to call a debt consolidation company and have them do it for me. Also is there a place I can get legitimate credit information i.e how to really honestly fix your credit and get payments reported when they are made?The items on his report are in collections but not charged off. Almost half of the items are under 100 each. If I pay these off one at a time and then work on a payment plan for the larger items will it improve my husbands credit score? Is it possible to request that once the item is paid in full it be updated or removed from my report as lexington law states they can dispute items ?
How to qualify and where is the best place for debt consolidation loan?
i have about $5,500.00 in credit card debit. i am 22 and two out of the seven accounts happen when i was 18, the other five happen after i was laid off from work approximately a year or so ago no more then 18 months. i have no idea how to qualify or where to even look for a debt consolidation loan. i really need help out of this very bad hole i made for myself i don't even know where to begin please all advice can help thank you

When a person goes thru a debt consolidation agency and gets their debt reduced, as far as I know this is taxable income cancelled debt . But when exactly is it " officially" cancelled debt for tax purposes at the beginning of the repayment term? at the end? ratably over the entire term?
What Is A Reputable Debt Consolidation Company?
I'm really trying to get in control of my finances. I've had to depend on credit cards for things like food and toiletries. I never used them for anything other than for survival. They're all maxed now and at ridiculous interest rates as high as 29%. I barely make the minimum payments and so I'm never really paying anything off, just getting deeper in debt. I've seriously been considering debt consolidation, but I'm so fearful of getting screwed over and that is the LAST thing I need. I was wondering if you had any advice or knew of anyone reputable.
